USING TRADITIONAL LEATHERWORKING METHODS
Each leather handbag is hand saddle-stitched to order and created in my NYC studio using cowhide leather, French linen thread and equestrian brass hardware.
The hand-stitched handbags are created using the saddle-stitch, which is an old leatherworking technique rarely used these days in mass bag production due to the extensive labor involved.
One of the main reasons to use the saddle-stitch and traditional leatherworking methods in handbag construction is because it creates a more durable end product than a traditional machine stitched handbag.
Contrasting white or yellow thread is a traditional element of this old-world European saddlers method of construction and is used so that the hallmark slanted hand-stitching of traditional leatherwork stands out even more.
